The Top Lakme Fashion Week Designers for Summer-Resort 2015

The Lakme Summer/Resort fashion show 2015 was held from March 18th to March 21st, at the Palladium, Mumbai. The highlight of the show was that, the most of the attention grabbing shows from the seasoned Lakme Fashion week designers, were held off site from the venue. The success of any fashion show lies with the power designers’ showcase and the promise that the young talent displays. The Lakme fashion week designers put up an avant garde display at the event.

The young Lakme Fashion week designers gave a lot of fresh perspective. Among them there are few notable ones. Anushree Reddy who is already popular with the bride in her 20’s presented her bridal wear with pastels combined with vintage floral prints, chevrons and stripes with a hint of bling. Mandira Bedi commenced the last day of the Lakme fashion week with her saree collection. She used a lot of colours with trendy cholis using banaras art on cotton and silk sarees.

Neha Agarwal’s ‘From Russia, with Love’ collection showed Indo-Soviet outfits. The Russian prints and babushka doll imprint were seen on most of the skirts and tops. The showstopper Karisma Kapoor’s pink bodice with sheer embroidered cape and printed skirt was outstanding. Ken Ferns theme ‘the eternal sleep’ saw red poppy flowers sprinkled on all his black and white outfits. They even had a hint of blue and mostly were printed modern wear. Karleo also presented a very western line with skirts, modern sarees and gowns. The young Lakme Fashion week designers did garner attention amidst the veteran glitz. There will definitely be an increase in the new Lakme fashion week designers every year from this year’s 39 new designers.

From the veteran Lakme fashion week designers; there was some amazing work to watch out for. Sabyasachi commenced the grand show at the Richardson & Cruddas rundown mill with 120 dazzling looks. It portrayed the 70’s with bling, stripes, floral prints, solids and monochromes. Manish Malhotra’s show ‘the Blue runway’ was presented in association with WEvolve. This opening night show was again off site at the old world ‘Great Eastern Home’. As per his theme his outfits were mostly bound by the colour blue and were traditional with contemporary approach. Suneet Varma presented ‘the decorative arts of India’ bringing forth the traditional techniques of different parts of India. He used a lot of mirror work and embroidery on shades and tints of reds and magentas. His mirror work shorts and pants stood out in the show, as did the gorgeous lehenga with crystals. 

Satya Paul by Gauri Khan saw contemporary sarees and flowy attires with tropical leaf motifs and modern prints. Tarun Taliani’s work was funky, blending in the cool and warm shades. The multicoloured prints used on kaftans, jackets and dhotis with turbans, made a lively presentation. The showstopper Chitrangada Singh said it all about Tahiliani’s show with her bohemian blue printed top with pink layered skirt. Wendell Rodericks’s ‘Popology’ took inspiration from pop art and used young bright colours in geometric patterns.

Of all the Lakme fashion week designers, Anamika Khanna’s show was a memorable one. She brought the curtains down with her ‘Sculpt’ line. The show was held at Bhau Daji Lad Museum using a grand staircase as the runway. Justifying the theme the collection showed sculpted outfits with modern cuts and Indian aesthetics. The show presented lot of gold, gunmetal and silver with ivory and black. Kareena Kapoor who is the face of Lakme did the final walk down the staircase in amazing silver and black attire.

The show ended on a grand note and the Lakme fashion week designers made the event happen with lot of originality, which will see us through this season.

Unravelling the Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2014!

Mandira Bedi

Anchor- Actress-Sports Commentator and now a Fashion Designer, multi-talented Mandira Bedi made her debut at the Lakme Fashion Show Summer/Resort 2014.Her colourful saree collection was inspired by the “Real Women”. There were various successful women from various walks of life to walk the ramp at the Indian Fashion Week; Dr. Kiran Coelho – Gynaecologist and Obstetrician. Head of Dept, Lilavati Hospital, Dr. Jamuna Pai – Pioneer of Cosmetology in India. Founder and Chairperson of Blush Clinics,Mrunalini Deshmukh – Renowned Matrimonial Lawyer, Schauna Chauhan – CEO, Parle Agro, Pooja Makhija – Nutritionist & Clinical Dietician (Celebrity Food Guru), Miss Malini – Celebrity Blogger, Yasmin Karachiwala – Celebrity Fitness Trainer, Shaheen Abbas – Jewellery Designer. Mandira’s mother Gita Bedi was the show stopper, she was looking magnificent in the purple & gold sari. It was a parade of real life stars wearing real life sarees at the Lakme Fashion Show. The six-yard saree collection had a breezy element; satin, georgettes and silk as base fabrics and high on colourful effects unlike the usual embroideries and embellishments. At the Indian Fashion Week, Mandira ensured that there was a perfect blend of vibrant colours to match the rising mercury this summer.

JADE by Monica Shah & Karishma Swali

Monica Shah and Karishma Swali showcased a 1920’s retro relaxed glam collection called The Bohemian Princess” at the Lakme Fashion Show. Matching the muse, the designers opted for soft subtle shades like white, pale pink, beige, liquid grey, orange & gold. The texture of the fabrics was sheer translucent with clever integration of metallic and embellishments that recreates the vintage fashion. Lisa Haydon in a radiant orange cutwork Lehenga and gold beaded blouse was magnificent as she walked down the ramp closing the show for “JADE” at the Indian Fashion Week. So for all the vintage / retro fashion lovers have a new collection to grab this season!

Swapnil Shinde

Swapnil Shinde showcased a collection called “An Affair to Remember” which was inspired by the glam love from Hollywood 1950’s era at the Indian Fashion Week. The colour scheme for his collection worked around gentle and solid shades of beige, slate blue, yellow mustard, purple berry, jet black and egg shell. At the Lakme Fashion show, the key element of Swapnil’s collection was Hearts & geometric peacock prints, woven with a web of glitzy mystery with his signature bold silhouettes. He played with traditional Maharashtrain Paithani weave with its antique gold & orange borders. At the Indian Fashion Week, Huge eye catching coloured bows were the star attraction at the back of the outfit. This collection was a perfect amalgamation of traditional fabric with modern design. The footwear was very well noticed cause of their ultra-stylish design. Swapnil definitely managed to stamp off enough drama as the model walk down the ramp at the Lakme Fashion show.

Gaurang Shah

Gaurang Shah’s “Chandbali” Collection was poetry in a fabric form devoted to the 21st century brides. On Indian Handloom & textile day, Gaurang ensured to showcase all the rich Indian tradition with a splendid line of royal ethnic finery at the Lakme Fashion Show, 2014. Classical Indian Music played by Ashoke Gurjale in the background, the splash of rainbow colours caused a riot on the ramp, colours such as surkh red,gulabi pink, zard yellow,narangi orange,sabz green were merged  with epoch styles, OH! What a feast for the eye! At the Indian Fashion Week,Gaurang’s collection combined the antique odhnas from the Akbarnama era with Kadi. Chandbali’s embroidery was coalesced with motifs like Buddha-pada, chand-Suraj & gow-mata. Gaurang made sure that the modern bride had ample of options like floor length kalidaar, jama, sadri ,shaluka ,achkans , angarkha and lehenga with assikalis .Kirron Kher in a bright pink brocade saree ended the show for Gaurang Shah. She was like a magnet of gorgeousness at the Indian Fashion Week! So, if the bride wants to make sure that she is the cynosure of all eyes at her ‘Wedding’, one of the most important occasions of her life then “Chandbali” collection by Gaurang Shah at Lakme Fashion show will create that perfect MAGIC!

Mandira Bedi's Indian Designer Sarees at Lakme Fashion Week 2014

Mandira Bedi showcased stunning Indian designer sarees at this year's Lakme Fashion Week. The sarees were made with silk in vibrant colours of orange, pink and light blues. Her sarees emphasised the model's curves through the use of gold borders and stripes that lined the fabric. They were elegant and bright, evoking the atmosphere of a beach summer.
