Designer Anju Modi : The Indian Cinema Inspired Indian Fashion Industry

According to the Indian designer Anju Modi, Indian cinema has a crucial role in promoting the Indian design industry in every era. She told to IANS that : "Cinema plays an essential part in every Indian's life. We always get mesmerised and inspired by cinema. I remember every era on Indian cinema which gave different recognition to costume designing. From those grand sets and elaborate costumes Indian cinema became an important part of the Indian fashion industry. And since then everything is about movies and cinema."

Not Quite The Runaway Bride

I just found out about a story dating back to November 2012 but it is too unusual not to be shared.

Minakshi Sawant, an undergraduate in psychology was seen running in her bridal lehenga through the halls of MG Science College to get to her second year exam.

She had just gotten married an hour and a half before, and rushed directly from Bapunagar to Khanpur in order to sit this important examination.

Sawant wants to have it all and not compromise between her career and marriage. And she worked very hard to get her master in clinical psychology.

Her husband is supportive and their story is an inspiration for other girls to chase their dreams!

Special Focus on: The Wedding jewels

In Indian weddings, jewellery is as much important as bridal lenghas dresses, the make-up and the hair.

It has been used for adornment since centuries and if men use bracelets, pendants and earrings, the Indian women wear them for other significance.
In fact, for Indian women, jewellery is considered auspicious and whatever they are poor or rich, women wear some jewels.
In Strand of Silk we think jewels bring light to a woman’s face and embellish her: her skin, her eyes and her hair are enhanced thanks to the colour and the of metal and precious stones.
Traditionally, jewellery has always been linked with wealth, power, femininity and status.

Jewels are gifted at different events and phases of life in an Indian woman’s life : birth, coming of age, marriage, becoming a mother, and certain ornaments are essential for married Indian woman.

We suggest you few indian contemporary jewellery pieces available on Strand of Silk’s e-shop. You can wear it during the day, on the evening, or even in a wedding:

Why Not Wear A Lehenga For An Indian Wedding?

If you are looking for a traditional clothe to wear for an Indian wedding, there are different types of dresses that can make you look gorgeous at an Indian wedding: Wedding Lehengas, Wedding Sarees or Bridal Anarkali Suits.

Why not wear lehenga for an Indian wedding?

Bridal Lehenga is a two pieces garment that includes a top and a skirt. The skirt is what gives the name to the traditional piece of clothing: a Lehenga is a pleated and embroidered skirt. Precious fabrics, detailed embroidery and embellishments are the main features of bridal Lehengas.
