It was proven by
archaeological excavations that Indians have been creating jewellery with gold,
silver and precious stones from prehistoric times.
The Moguls (Indian imperial
empire) have influenced jeweller's craft with their elaborate skills for
sculpting, whereas craftsmen from Rajasthan have brought their enamelling
techniques.
In Indian Territory,
jewellery symbolise beliefs and is associated to wealth, power, social status,
affiliation to a caste and beauty as well.
Indian jewellery is
said to be invested of the power of the gods and goddesses.
You can realise how
important jewellery has been in India for millennia by looking at the art representing
divinities richly adorned with necklaces, rings, bracelets, nose rings, ankle
bracelets and hair ornaments, etc. We can also see Indian kings bearing shiny
and colourful polished stones.
But how is the traditional jewellery made?
